Getting A New Wood Floor? 3 Steps To Keep It Looking Beautiful

Blog

You've decided on wood flooring for your new home (from an outlet such as B & D Floor Sanding). Once you have it installed, you're going to want it to last for as long as possible. To do that, you'll need to take good care of it. If you've never had wood flooring in your home before, you might not be aware of the special care it will require. It won't take a lot of hard work to keep your wood floors looking beautiful. In fact, with just a few simple steps your wood floors can look shiny and brand new for years to come.

Get Rid of the Scuffs Quickly

Scuffs can happen easily on a wood floor, especially if you wear shoes in the house. To keep your floor looking beautiful, you'll need to remove scuffs quickly. Light scuffs can be buffed out with a soft rag. You can even remove a minor scuff by rubbing a tennis ball over the area. For more difficult scuffs, reach for the baking soda. Sprinkle a small amount of baking soda on a clean, damp cloth and carefully buff the scuff until it's gone. Use a damp paper towel to remove the residue and then dry the area with a clean cloth.

Remove the Daily Dirt and Grime

Even if you keep your furnace filter clean, dirt and dust can still build-up on your wood floors. Even oils from your skin can get deposited on your floors when you walk on them. Help keep your floors clean by sweeping them with a clean dust mop once a day. You should also vacuum your floor at least once a week. Be sure to get along the baseboards to remove dirt that might be hiding around the edges of your room.

Give it a Deep Cleaning

To keep your wood floors as clean as they can possibly be, you should also give them a thorough cleaning at least once a month. A deep cleaning will get rid of the dirt and restore the natural oils to your floor. Here's a simple way to clean your floors.

Supplies You'll Need

  • Dust mop
  • Bucket
  • Warm water
  • Vinegar
  • Clean mop

Directions

  1. Take a dust mop to your floor to remove the dust.
  2. Fill your bucket with warm water.
  3. Add 1 cup of white vinegar.
  4. Use your mop to clean the entire surface of your floor.
  5. Allow it to air dry.
  6. Repeat the process once a month to keep your floors clean.

With the proper care, your new wood floors will stay looking beautiful for many years. Use these simple steps to keep your floors clean and protected.

Finding Flooring You Will Love Forever

When we started renovating our home, I knew that it was going to be a long process. By the time we got to the flooring, I was tired of making big decisions. Part of me just wanted to give up and let the contractor choose something that he thought would mesh well with the rest of the paint colors. However, I realized that since I would be living with the flooring for awhile, I should really take the time to choose. I spent a few weeks evaluating different flooring samples, and I ended up going with a really nice travertine. This blog is all about finding the right flooring for your home.
